Check the condensate drain

TRX

What is going on

Dry trap on the TRX150. Flue gas coming out of the condensate drain. Trap has to hold water or the seal is gone. Not a guess-and-go item, since it is combustion gas.

Likely causes

  • Dry condensate drain trap
  • Trap never primed after install or service
  • Blocked or cracked trap or drain line

Check in this order

  1. With the boiler running, hold your fingers near the discharge end of the condensate drain tubing.
  2. If you feel flue gas, the trap is probably dry.
  3. Check the trap and drain line for blockage or damage.
  4. If the problem continues, call a qualified service technician to check the boiler, condensate line and trap.
  5. Do not run the boiler long with flue gas escaping, and ventilate the room.

For licensed technicians. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a qualified, licensed person. Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
