E2.2 Flame recycles exceeded - flame lost after lighting (1 hour lockout)

High severity Trane S8V2Trane S8B1Trane S8X1Trane S8X2

What the control is telling you

Flame was proven and then dropped out 10 times in one heat call, so the control locked out for one hour.

Applies to: Trane S8V2 (80%, 2-stage, variable speed, Link) and S8B1 / S8X1 / S8X2 (80%, 1- and 2-stage)

Likely causes

  • Dirty or badly placed flame sensor
  • Poor ground or loose sensor wiring
  • Dirty burners
  • Manifold pressure not held (weak supply)
  • Gas valve dropping out

Test and repair steps

  1. Reset by cycling power and run 1st stage heat with other gas appliances on.
  2. Read flame signal on the FP pads (DC volts, 1 VDC = 1 microamp); 0.75 to 3.0 is normal.
  3. If it is low, clean the flame sensor, check its location, its wire and the burner ground.
  4. Connect a manometer to the manifold tap and confirm about 1.7 in. W.C. NG / 6.0 in. W.C. LP is held through the run.
  5. If manifold pressure sags, check inlet supply pressure and correct the gas supply before touching the regulator.
