LED off No LED - no power or control failure

High severity Goodman/Amana *MES9 single-stage

What the control is telling you

The diagnostic LED on the control is dark and the furnace does nothing. The wiring diagram legend also lists LED off as a control failure. The LED table adds that off can mean the gas valve was on when it should be off, or off when it should be on.

Applies to: GMES9, GCES9, AMES9, ACES9, VMES9, VCES9 (single stage, 92% and 96%)

Likely causes

  • No 115 V to the furnace: disconnect off, door switch open, breaker tripped or fuse blown
  • No 24 V at the control, loose 24 V wires
  • Blown 3 A control fuse
  • Control has an internal fault

Test and repair steps

  1. Turn off power before repairs.
  2. Check 115 V and 24 V to the control. Check for a short in the 115 V and 24 V wiring and repair it.
  3. Check the 3 A control fuse and replace it with a 3 A automotive type if blown.
  4. Replace the control only after the checks above pass.
