EE7 Igniter circuit fault or poor ground

High severity Goodman/Amana *MVC96 (34.5 in. chassis)

What the control is telling you

The control found a problem in the igniter circuit or in the unit ground, so the furnace will not run. Check the igniter wiring and the ground path first.

Applies to: GMVC96, GCVC96, AMVC96, ACVC96 (*BA, ComfortBridge)

Likely causes

  • Igniter plug loose or wired wrong
  • Shorted igniter
  • Poor unit ground
  • Igniter relay fault on the control

Test and repair steps

  1. Turn off power before touching wiring or the board.
  2. Check the wiring from the control to the igniter and fix any loose pin or bad connection.
  3. Measure the igniter cold a good 120 V silicon nitride igniter reads about 37 to 68 ohms. Replace it if it is shorted or out of range. Handle it by the mounting only.
  4. Check the unit ground wire back to the panel.
  5. Check the igniter output at the control. Replace the control only if the output is missing with good wiring and a good igniter.
