15 Blower motor lockout

High severity 59TP6A

What the control is telling you

The blower failed to reach 250 RPM, or did not communicate within 30 seconds after being turned on, in two heating cycles in a row. Auto-resets after 3 hours. This code comes from the troubleshooting guide; it is not printed on the blower-door service label.

Applies to: 59TP6A two-stage variable-speed ECM multipoise condensing gas furnace, all sizes (040-10 to 120-22)

Likely causes

  • Blower motor (ECM) fault
  • Blower motor wiring or communication problem
  • Blower wheel obstruction

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: Shut off 115-V power and gas, and lock/tag out before working inside the furnace; there may be more than one power source.
  2. Check the blower motor power and communication harness connections at the motor and control.
  3. Spin the blower wheel by hand; check for binding, debris or a loose wheel.
  4. Reset power and run the Component Self-Test (R wire off, SW1-6 ON, door switch closed); the blower should run at mid-range airflow for 15 seconds.
  5. Replace the faulty motor or harness, then confirm normal heat cycles.
