Amber light Emergency heat indicator (thermostat)
What the display is showing
On room thermostats that have an emergency heat setting, an amber lamp comes on when the thermostat is placed in emergency heat. In that mode the outdoor unit control circuit is cut off and only the auxiliary heat runs. It is a reminder to the homeowner, not a fault. The manual advises using it after a power outage longer than an hour when outdoor temperature is below 50 F (10 C), and leaving it on for at least six hours so the crankcase heater can warm the compressor.
Applies to: Heat pumps with a room thermostat that has an emergency heat position; Lennox EL16KP1 (Elite) and ML14KP1 (Merit) R-454B heat pumps, sizes -018 to -060, demand defrost control A108 (CMC1)
