No cooling - R-32 GLXS/ALXS condenser

What is going on

Thermostat calls for cooling but the outdoor unit or indoor blower is not doing its part.

Likely causes

  • No 230 V or 24 V supply
  • Thermostat or wiring fault
  • Pressure switch open
  • Failed contactor
  • Failed run capacitor
  • Compressor overload open or windings open
  • Locked compressor
  • Metering device or charge problem
  • Indoor blower or board fault

Check in this order

  1. Check 230 V at the unit and at the transformer; check 24 V from the transformer.
  2. Check 24 V on Y from the thermostat; then 24 V at the contactor coil - none means check the pressure switches and wiring.
  3. Contactor energized but not closing replace it.
  4. Compressor not running with the contactor closed: check wiring, run capacitor, overload and windings. A hot compressor should be allowed to cool and retried.
  5. Windings open or compressor locked replace the compressor.
  6. Compressor runs but does not pump check for a clogged piston or faulty TXV, then confirm charge with subcooling/superheat.
  7. Indoor blower not running check 24 V on G from the thermostat and voltage to the indoor motor; replace the board or motor as found.
