EC71 Outdoor fan motor over-current

High severity Viessmann Vitocal 200-S DLCM(R/H)B multi-zone outdoor

What the control is telling you

The outdoor DC fan motor drew too much current.

Applies to: DLCMRBH / DLCMHBH multi-zone outdoor units 18-48K (Midea, Carrier, Viessmann Vitocal 200-S)

Likely causes

  • Fan blocked
  • Bad fan motor
  • Bad outdoor PCB

Test and repair steps

  1. Safety kill power at the disconnect and wait for the inverter capacitors to discharge before touching boards or wiring.
  2. Restart after 3 minutes. If it clears, the unit is fine.
  3. With power off, spin the fan by hand. Free the blade if it drags or rubs and check the blade nut is tight.
  4. Check the fan motor wiring at the board.
  5. Unplug the U-V-W fan connector and measure U-V, U-W, V-W. Unequal readings = replace the fan motor. Equal = replace the board.
