EC71 Outdoor DC fan motor over-current
What the control is telling you
The outdoor fan motor is drawing too much current.
Applies to: DLCURAH18-60 AAK/ABK single-zone heat pump outdoor units (18K-60K, regular and High Heat)
Likely causes
- Fan blade binding or blocked
- Ice buildup on fan
- Failing fan motor bearings/windings
- Board fault
Test and repair steps
- Warning: Turn off and lock out power at the outdoor disconnect and wait for the inverter capacitors to discharge before touching the outdoor board or compressor wiring.
- Check the fan blade spins freely by hand and is not rubbing the shroud.
- Clear ice, snow or debris from the fan and coil.
- Check the fan motor wiring for shorts.
- Replace the fan motor if it binds or the fault returns; if a new motor does not fix it, replace the outdoor board.
