EC71 Outdoor fan motor over-current
What the control is telling you
The outdoor DC fan motor drew too much current.
Applies to: DLCMRBH / DLCMHBH multi-zone outdoor units 18-48K (Midea, Carrier, Viessmann Vitocal 200-S)
Likely causes
- Fan blocked
- Bad fan motor
- Bad outdoor PCB
Test and repair steps
- Safety kill power at the disconnect and wait for the inverter capacitors to discharge before touching boards or wiring.
- Restart after 3 minutes. If it clears, the unit is fine.
- With power off, spin the fan by hand. Free the blade if it drags or rubs and check the blade nut is tight.
- Check the fan motor wiring at the board.
- Unplug the U-V-W fan connector and measure U-V, U-W, V-W. Unequal readings = replace the fan motor. Equal = replace the board.
