Recover a forgotten screen lock password

Tankless water heater · Noritz EZ, Noritz NRCR

The operation panel screen lock uses a 4-digit password.

  1. When 'Input Password' is shown, hold OK for about 5 seconds.

Service & test modes

Forced fan, low and high fire, test and diagnostic modes, error history and live data.

Trial operation of parts (EZ Start Plus app)

Tankless water heater · Noritz EZ, Noritz NRCR, Noritz CDV

Switch individual parts on and off to check them: fan motor, igniter, water servo, pump (NRCR only) and bypass servo (CDV only), depending on the unit.

  1. Open EZ Start Plus and connect.
  2. Tap Maintenance, then Trial Operation.
  3. Pick the part and tap the toggle to turn it on, tap again to turn it off.

Reset & cancel

Clearing lockouts, service reminders and fault history; skipping purge or de-air programs.

Reset the panel settings to defaults (Default Settings)

Tankless water heater · Noritz EZ, Noritz NRCR

Default Settings resets everything in Settings except Screen Lock.

  1. Open Settings and choose Default Settings.
  2. Hold OK for about 5 seconds.

Settings shortcuts

Where the useful parameters live and what they are set to from the factory.

Set a temperature of 125 F (55 C) or higher

Tankless water heater · Noritz EZ, Noritz NRCR

Settings of 125 F (55 C) or higher need the Max Set Temperature raised first; the panel warns about scald risk.

  1. With the unit power off, raise Max Set Temperature (100-140 F, default 120 F / 50 C).
  2. Then set the temperature to 125 F (55 C) or higher.

Check the recirculation mode (MM86)

Tankless water heater · Noritz NRCR

MM86 confirms which recirculation mode the unit is really set to.

  1. Open the maintenance monitor and select MM86.
  2. Read the value: dedicated return 11 Auto Recirc (default), 12 Manual timer, 13 Always ON, 14 Always OFF, 15 On-Demand (Title 24).
  3. Crossover valve units show 21 to 25 for the same modes in the same order.

Read live data (Maintenance Monitor)

Tankless water heater · Noritz EZ, Noritz NRCR

The Maintenance Monitor menu shows live unit data as MM numbers.

  1. Press the Menu button.
  2. Use Up/Down to select Maintenance Monitor, press OK.
  3. Pick the MM item to read.
  4. Press Back to leave.

Read the error history

Tankless water heater · Noritz EZ, Noritz NRCR

Shows the eight most recent failures, 1 being the newest.

  1. Press the Menu button.
  2. Open Maintenance Monitor.
  3. Select an error and press OK for details.

Read the error history through maintenance monitors MM91-MM98

Tankless water heater · Noritz NRCR

On NRCR units the error history is also read in maintenance monitor mode.

  1. Open the maintenance monitor.
  2. MM91 is the most recent error code.
  3. MM92 to MM98 are error codes 2 to 8, next most recent first.
