Proflame IPI/CPI pilot ignition and flame proving
What happens, in order
- Remote or switch calls for flame; the DFC board starts pilot ignition and sparks at the pilot hood
- Pilot valve (EV1) opens; the pilot lights and the sense electrode must be engulfed to prove flame
- Once flame is proven, EV2 (main valve) is driven: expect a spike of about 5 V DC for about 2 s, then about 0.6 V DC continuous
- Main burner lights from the pilot and modulates on the 885 (electronic) or 886 (manual HI/LO) valve
- If no flame is proven, the board locks out and must be reset using the unlock sequence in the DFC instructions
- Spark continuing with the pilot lit points to the sense cable/electrode or DFC board
- OFF command with the IPI/CPI switch on CPI the pilot stays lit; on IPI the pilot should go out
Timings and thresholds
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| EV2 voltage after flame proven | About 5 V DC for 2 s, then 0.6 V DC |
| DFC battery supply | 4.4-6.4 V DC (cells above 1.1 V each) |
| DFC AC/DC adapter supply | 6.7-7.3 V DC |
| DFC from fan control module | 6.0-6.4 V DC |

Shut off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and follow the manufacturer’s manual for the exact model; it and local codes always take priority.
